What is a Mini-Facelift
A Mini-Facelift is a streamlined version of the traditional facelift. It focuses on tightening and lifting the lower face and jawline. The procedure uses smaller incisions and targets only specific areas to reduce sagging around the cheeks and jawline, resulting in a more youthful, refreshed look.
The Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift is a type of facelift designed to address sagging in the mid to lower face with minimal scarring and downtime. Originating in Belgium, this procedure is less invasive than a traditional facelift. It focuses on lifting the cheeks, jawline, and lower face without extensive dissection of the deeper facial tissues. It can be combined with neck liposuction and fat grafting to improve neck contour and add volume to areas like the cheeks, enhancing the overall result.
The MACS lift balances natural-looking results and minimal downtime, making it popular with patients who are not yet ready for more extensive surgery but would love subtle yet effective facial enhancement.
Benefits of a Mini-Facelift
The Mini-Facelift offers several advantages, namely:
- Minimally Invasive: The smaller incisions mean a shorter recovery time and reduced scarring.
- Targeted Results: This procedure addresses specific areas of the face, like the jawline and lower cheeks, for a natural, rejuvenated appearance.
- Long-Lasting Effects: Results typically last several years, making it an excellent investment in maintaining youthful skin.
- Alternative to Non-Invasive Treatments: A Mini-Facelift can be a more impactful solution for patients who have not achieved the desired results from non-invasive options.
Who is an Ideal Candidate for a Mini-Facelift?
Ideal candidates for a Mini-Facelift are generally in their late 30s to early 40s and experiencing mild to moderate sagging around the lower face and jawline. We also welcome patients of any age who previously had a facelift and experience recurrent sagging.
Patients should be in good overall health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations for the procedure’s outcomes. A consultation with Dr. Kirn or Dr. Al Bayati can help determine if this approach to facial rejuvenation is right for you.
The Procedure
The Mini-Facelift procedures do not specifically target the neck, though it often results in a noticeable improvement in neck contour. Sometimes, neck liposuction can be added to further refine the neck’s appearance. As with traditional facelift techniques, fat grafting is commonly incorporated into the Mini-Facelift to enhance facial volume and overall results.
Eyelid surgery, brow lift, or other procedures may accompany the MACS Lift. MACS lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia (the patient is completely asleep) and are outpatient procedures performed at the surgery center.
Patients who previously had a facelift and have recurrent mild to moderate sagging may be a candidate for an in-office nip-tuck procedure under local anesthesia.
Recovery and Aftercare
Recovery time for a Mini-Facelift is usually quicker than that of a traditional facelift. Patients can often resume daily activities within a week, although strenuous activities should be avoided for two to three weeks. Swelling and mild discomfort are common initially and are manageable with prescribed medications. Our team will provide personalized aftercare instructions to promote a smooth recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
I would like to do a "mini-lift" instead of a full facelift. Which is right for me?
Examining and discussing your goals and expectations is the only way to answer this question. We always try to do the least surgery possible to achieve the desired result. Usually, patients who are good candidates for "mini lifts" have age-related changes in the cheeks and jawline but minimal changes in the neck. Our preferred "mini-lift" procedure is the MACS lift.
What is the difference between a MACS lift and a traditional facelift?
The MACS lift is a "short scar facelift" or a "mini-lift." It is helpful for patients with minimal aging in the cheek and jawline but not particularly useful for patients with a lot of aging in the neck. The advantages of a MACS lift are generally quicker recovery, less time in the operating room, shorter scars, and lower cost. It is frequently combined with fat grafting and eyelid surgery, just like traditional facelift operations.
How long do the results of a Mini-Facelift last?
Results from a Mini-Facelift typically last between five and ten years, depending on factors like skin type, lifestyle, and skincare habits. A healthy lifestyle and regular skincare routine can help extend the longevity of your results.
Will a Mini-Facelift leave visible scars?
The Mini-Facelift uses small, well-hidden incisions, usually placed around the ears. Scars are minimal and typically fade over time, becoming barely noticeable with proper aftercare and healing.
How soon can I go back to work after a Mini-Facelift?
Most patients feel comfortable returning to work within a week, depending on the nature of their job and how they feel post-surgery. Dr. Kirn or Dr. Al Bayati will provide a personalized recovery timeline during your consultation.
