Gynecomastia: Addressing Male Breast Enlargement
Gynecomastia, or male breast enlargement, affects men of all ages. While there can be several medical causes for this condition, often no specific reason is identified, and it is viewed as an unwanted change. The initial step in managing gynecomastia involves a thorough evaluation by a knowledgeable physician to determine if there is an underlying cause that requires treatment.
Treatment Approaches
The majority of gynecomastia cases can be effectively treated with liposuction. Dr. Kirn and Dr. Al Bayati typically use Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) to address excess fat in the male chest. However, many patients also have glandular breast tissue that cannot be removed through liposuction alone. This glandular tissue can be excised through the same small incision by a process known as glandular pull-through. Or, in cases of substantial glandular buildup, via a separate incision along the border of the areola. This removal can be done during the initial surgery or might be delayed, based on individual circumstances and results post-liposuction.

For patients presenting with excess skin, glandular tissue, and fat, a more comprehensive approach involving skin removal, glandular tissue excision, liposuction and possibly nipple repositioning may be required. When skin removal is necessary, it will result in a permanent scar. Therefore, Dr. Kirn and Dr. Al Bayati strive to use the least invasive methods first, resorting to incisions only when necessary to achieve optimal results.
